Medicare plans can still be changed

Senior citizens who are not happy with their current Medicare Advantage plan still have time to make some last-minute adjustments.

During Opening Enrollment Period, which began on January 1st and lasts till March 31st, seniors are allowed to make changes, but only under certain conditions. Enrollees must have both Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B, and live in the area served by the Medicare Advantage plan.

Seniors can not add or drop the Medicare drug benefit (Part D) coverage, which had a deadline of December 31st last year.

Medicare plans can still be changed Those who opt for changes in their Medicare coverage will see them take place on the first of the month after they alter their plan.

New enrollees may want to keep in mind their right to purchase a Medigap policy, according to SeniorJournal.com.

Medigap is a supplemental insurance plan that fills gaps in Original Medicare, but is only available at certain times.

If a senior has been enrolled in a Medicare private health plan for longer than 12 months, the opportunity to purchase Medigap insurance may be fading.
