There has been much debate in recent months over the recommendations for breast cancer screenings.

The American Cancer Society (ACS) suggests that women over the age of 40 should begin receiving annual mammograms, while the United States
Preventive Services Task Force recently opined that early breast cancer screenings lead to too many false positives, and only women between 50 and 74 should have yearly mammograms.

However, the ACS has said that despite the task force’s recommendations they will continue to support breast cancer screenings for women over the age of 40.

Though the frequency with which a woman is screened is ultimately for the individual and her doctor to decide, it’s important to remember to make any appointments that you have scheduled, as doctors and testing facilities are often on a tight schedule.

More.com suggests that women, and all active living seniors, will be more likely to remember that they have a medical test if they schedule it close to another important date.

Researchers believe that milestones, like birthdays or anniversaries, remind us of the passage of time and the importance of taking care of ourselves, according to the website.
