Retirement living seniors who enjoy movies may have felt that this year theaters offered a wider selection of films that interested them. If so, they’re not alone.
In fact, the AARP magazine recently released a list of its top films by, about or for older Americans. This annual offering is known as the Movies for Grownups Awards.
Among the 50 films that made the cut, The Blind Side, which stars Sandra Bullock as a white southern woman who adopts a black teenager after realizing that he has nowhere to go, garnered the Reader’s Choice Award.
Invictus, which tells the story of Nelson Mandela’s attempt to unify South Africa by urging the nation’s team to win the 1995 Rugby World Cup, took home the magazine’s Best Movie for Grownups award.
The film was directed by Clint Eastwood, a five-time Academy Award winner who is an inspiration to many active living seniors. Eastwood is 79 years old. In addition to the five Oscars, he also won five Golden Globe Awards, a Screen Actors’ Guild Award and five People’s Choice Awards.
