A Washington Post columnist has published a book of stories based on interviews from couples over the age of 50 about their dating life.
In As Time Goes By: Boomerang Marriages, Serial Spouses, Throwback Couples, and Other Romantic Adventures in an Age of Longevity, Abigail Tafford writes that the generation of the Big Chill has turned into the Big Churn, with men and women discovering a different kind of dating experience that is free of societal norms.
"You don’t need social approval anymore," Tafford writes in the opening pages.
"You can cohabit as an unmarried couple. You can live separately as a married or unmarried couple. You can be travel companions. You can be friends."
Recently Tafford spoke with U.S. News and World Report about her book and said, "It’s wonderful to realize that you’re never too old to fall in love, but wise to remember that you’re never too old to fall apart in love."
According to Tafford, dating in your 50s presents less pressure since no one expects you to get married.
"You’re dating for fun," Tafford told the news provider.
