Job Summary
Reporting to the Regional Director of Operations, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall management and operation of the Retirement Residence and providing high standards of service and value to our residents within profit and margin expectations and in a manner consistent with Revera’s Retirement vision, mission and guiding principles.
Qualifications
• Certificate/degree in health, business, marketing and/or social services;
• Minimum of five (5) years relevant management experience, preferably in a retirement residence, hotel or other hospitality industry setting;
• Supervisory experience with a sizeable multidisciplinary team (more than 10)
• Must possess strong leadership abilities
• Solid understanding of business planning processes and key business metrics to be achieved
• Property management and maintenance experience is an asset
• Sales and marketing experience is preferred to drive superior performance/results
• Thorough understanding of effective HR practices and policies
• Must possess good written and oral communication skills with the ability to effectively supervise the activities of department managers
• Must have demonstrated sound financial knowledge and understanding of how decisions can affect/impact results (NOI, operating margins, Occupancy, REVPAS)
• Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office applications);
• Proficiency in a second language consistent with the Resident population is considered an asset.
Key Responsibilities
• To be efficient in the operation and cost control of all the residence’s departments (e.g. food service/ culinary, housekeeping, recreation, health and wellness, environmental services, front office and reception);
• To operate the residence to ensure that all services are provided in conformance with all applicable legislative, regulatory and Retirement Residences requirements. Fully understands and practices the management style of “Ownership, Accountability and Responsibility” for directing all the residence’s operations;
• To exceed stabilized budgeted occupancy levels, knowledge and understanding of what drives revenue and experience with Profit and loss reporting;
• To maximize ancillary revenues including care, pharmacy, telco, cable etc.;
• To select, orient and monitor the performance of departmental and program managers, and conduct annual performance appraisals;
• To actively promote the Residence and the organization by overseeing all marketing/sales activities in accordance with Revera policies and standards and promoting a sales culture;
• To participate in the development of the residence’s annual operating and capital budgets and ensure conformance to approved budgets;
• To achieve the optimal operating margin for the residence;
• To establish residence goals and objectives in conjunction with the Regional Director of Operations ensure that these are met within available budgetary and fiscal resources, and appropriate time frames;
• To ensure that all care and services provided for are billed and that labour is aligned to occupancy and acuity;
• To administer residence collective agreements (where applicable) on a day-to-day basis and represents the company in the grievance process;
• To participate with peers in meetings and share best practices;
• To working in collaboration with RDSM on marketing plan;
• To engage with the Residents /Families, invite feedback and review all concerns in attempt to resolve;
• To represent the residence and liaises with hospitals, community, professional, civic and service organizations;
• To ensure that all appropriate contacts, including area physicians, are established and maintained with the community in order to maximize the availability of potential tenants/residents and to obtain feedback with regard to the services required;
• To initiate, review, and prepare documents, policies and procedures to conform with the standards of the Revera Inc. policies and procedures;
• To comply with all relevant Provincial and Federal Acts and Regulations, i.e. Health Disciplines Act, Human Rights Code, Labour Relations Act, WSIB/WCB, College of Nurses Standards, Regulated Health Profession Act., etc;
• To uphold and promote the organization’s values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in Revera’s Code of Conduct;
• To complete other duties as assigned.
