Schooner Estates was founded in 1988 by the Sasseville family, who have dedicated themselves to providing an enriching environment for Maine's senior citizens for over 48 years. "A New Direction" in independent and assisted living retirement lifestyles has become their hallmark.

Orono Commons has long enjoyed a reputation for providing attentive and compassionate care. In recent years, we have also developed comprehensive post hospital care and rehabilitation services for people who can benefit from short-term continued care after hospital stays. This program focuses on successful recovery from surgery or illness, helping people return home as quickly as possible.

Since its opening, the Island Nursing Home and Care Center has diversified to further comprise 38 dually certified nursing/skilled nursing beds, 32 residential care beds, Adult Day Care services, Child Day Care services, Respite Care, Hospice Care and expanded community outreach programs in caregiver support and education.
