Nestled in the resort town of Holland is a scenic shoreline park, Window on the Waterfront. This beautiful boardwalk reflects the tranquility of the adjacent Macatawa River wetlands where gulls glide overhead and herons stand like sentinels in the shallows. On the opposite shore, four long arms of a towering Dutch windmill reach skyward. It's a beautiful place.
But venture a bit farther and you'll find that the appealing aspects of Freedom Village's location don't end in this picturesque setting. Holland is a college town. Just a short walk away, Hope College enriches the lives of Village Residents with a highly-regarded Summer Repertory Theatre and a wide range of concerts, lectures, athletic contests, and other programs throughout the year.
Holland's diverse and appealing stores, which attract shoppers from miles away, are easily reached by Freedom Village Residents. The quaint shops along the main thoroughfare, Eighth Street, can be reached on foot from the Village. Shopping for something a bit out of the ordinary? You're likely to find it here. And, if you stay in Holland through the winter, you'll like the Snow Melt System which assures that sidewalks in this downtown shopping center district won't be slippery. Just a five-minute drive north of Freedom Village are dozens of other interesting stores in the city's largest shopping center. Here are Westshore Mall, a traditional enclosed mall, and Manufacturers Marketplace, an outdoor mall which attracts shoppers from throughout the Midwest and Canada.
Situated near Lake Michigan, Holland is one of the country's most popular tourist destinations, too. Each spring thousands come to the city to see the millions of blossoms along tulip lanes, in large garden beds, and at nearby bulb farms. More than a week of parades and special programs make Holland's annual Tulip Time one of America's most exciting and colorful festivals. Of course, as a resident of Freedom Village and the community of Holland, you'll enjoy the attractions of not only Tulip Time, but also the other events and facilities which make this a resort town all year around.
And when you want to travel you'll find nearby freeways convenient for motoring north and south along the lakeshore and eastward to Grand Rapids and beyond. Amtrak rail service, linking Holland with Chicago and, from there, to cities throughout the country, couldn't be more convenient for Freedom Village residents. Holland's recently renovated train station is just steps from the Village entrance.
A resort location may not be the most important factor in selecting your retirement home, but Freedom Village's setting is certainly a big plus. Its present residents have found that this is the place to be. |
