We understand that each resident is an individual with unique needs and preferences.  That's why we meet with residents and family and conduct an assessment - prior to move-in and at regular intervals after move-in - to understand the need for assistance and support.

This assessment helps determine the appropriate care and service that preserve each resident's dignity, encourages independence and best enables freedom of choice.  The assessment results in determining a specific service level based on the amount of assistance provided.

Upon completion of the assessment, a team comprised of the Executive Director, Assisted Living or Reminiscence Coordinator, Health Care Coordinator, and our designated Care Manager prepares an individualized service plan that is monitored on a daily basis.

Because we know that quality of life depends on both environment and relationships, we focus on these two factors. We have determined that a carefully thought out physical environment and the culture within it would come from the people and relationships living and working in that setting.

At Sunrise, we recognize that diet is one of the most important aspects of a senior’s life. Our community has an on-site dining chef and we offer fresh meals prepared daily in our kitchen. Plus snacks are always available throughout the day.

DOUGLAS A. FAIRFAX, "Chef Doug" ~ CEC, CDM, CFPP
Doug has worked in the foodservice industry for 16 years. He received formal culinary training at the Pennsylvania Culinary Institute and has completed college courses in Dietary Management. Doug has been certified as an Executive Chef from the American Culinary Federation and Certified Dietary Manager from the Dietary Managers Association.

He has held the positions of Sous Chef and Executive Chef during a ten year tenure with the Holiday Inn Corporation. Before joining Sunrise, he served as Director of Dining for an Emeritus Assisted Living community. At Sunrise, he works with Dieticians to assess seniors with dysphasia and other diseases that require special, modified, or textured diets. Doug also works closely with the Dining Services Team at Sunrise of Frederick and utilizes nutrition therapy to enhance the quality of life for our residents.

He has been recognized for his "Calabash Seafood Buffet" and Crab Cake recipe. Doug also as an extensive history participating in a variety of fundraising campaigns for the March of Dimes and the Alzheimer’s Association.

Because our activity programs are tailored to our residents, each community’s calendar will vary according to the individual preferences of the residents who live there.
