Caring for the elderly is more than a Jewish tradition … it is a tenet that has been passed from generation to generation and lives today in the hearts and minds of the families within our community. As an extension of this commitment, the Jewish Community Housing Corporation (JCHC) embarked upon a long-term and highly ambitious program in 1982 to provide housing, programmatic and ancillary services for the independent elderly in our community. By the turn of the century, the JCHC developed and manages more than 400 apartments in four buildings for older adults in West Orange, Irvington, and South Orange. These facilities continue to meet the needs of MetroWest seniors with a traditional lifestyle, quality accommodations and kosher food.
In 2001, the JCHC announced the newest jewel in their crown, The Lester Senior Housing Community.
Located on the Aidekman Jewish Federation Campus in Whippany, New Jersey, the Lester Senior Housing Community is a kosher state-of-the-art facility of 120 apartments of independent housing and in an adjacent wing 63 units of assisted living apartments in the Judy and Josh Weston Facility, based on availability.
The Lester Senior Housing Community will answer the needs of older adults who welcome the vital atmosphere of the campus, the privacy and independence of a spacious maintenance-free apartment and the availability of assisted living. It will serve those who want to be surrounded by the many services, conveniences and people that add dignity and self-respect in a comfortable traditional environment. It began with a dream and has become a reality through the love, hard work, financial commitment and dedication of the Jewish community in the MetroWest area of New Jersey.
