On Friday, February 22 2008, Adam Fineman, Vice President, Strategic Development of RetirementHomes.com was featured in a FOXBusiness.com article - Retirement Communities: Not Always the Cheaper Option. Along with other North American senior housing experts, Mr. Fineman detailed the choices the aging community faces between staying at home or moving into a retirement community. Read the interaction between FOXBusiness.com and Mr. Fineman. --- At RetirementHomes.com, a retirement housing directory based in Toronto, Vice President Adam Fineman said there are two different categories of retirement homes to be considered. The first type are Active Adult Communities, which are housing complexes for individuals 55-and-older that offer no on-site medical facilities. “These communities are designed for people who are in good health and totally independent,” Fineman said. The other popular type of retirement community is referred to as a CCRC, or Continuing Care Retirement Community. At CCRCs, seniors are given care to match their needs throughout their life. Most seniors enter CCRCs in good health, and then as they age, facilities are available on-site to care for their changes in health. “Most CCRCs charge higher monthly fees to account for the medical care,” Fineman said. “It’s a really subjective list of reasons why people are choosing retirement communities over their own home,” Fineman said. “When it comes to dollars and cents, there are advantages and disadvantages, depending on the price tag. But you can’t put a price on peace of mind and the social component.” Read the entire article: Retirement Communities: Not Always the Cheaper Option Stephen Winbaum is the Communications Coordinator of RetirementHomes.com ---
