We just came from an ind living/asst living facility in GA for my parents. I think she said MediCADE was the one that could be involved, however if there are VA benefits available, you could start there.
Medicare generally does not pay the long term care costs. The assistance from Medicare is very restrictive; whereas the daily activities such as bathing or dressing are not covered by Medicare. It only pays for skilled nursing or home health care.
If you are looking for investment or insurance that will give you the best benefit, then you must go for long term care insurance. Many insurance companies nowadays offer policies with many benefits such as inflation protection and long term care insurance tax deduction http://www.completelongtermcare.com/resources/tax-advantages.aspx
Unfortunately, Medicare coverage is very limited. In fact, it doesn't cover all the expenses related to long-term care, including assisted living facility costs for a long period of time. Medicare has a limitation of 100 days or less.
