By Clint Maun, CPS Highly successful teams need to be publicized. When teams operate effectively and efficiently, and moreover, reach their goals, it really needs to be shouted from the rooftops. After all, vocalizing the team's purpose and processes will help other managers and employees follow suit. Here are four great ways to publicize your healthcare organization's successful teams: Create a brand. Name and brand identity are critical for teams to gain recognition. Every great team has a name and brand associated with it. Mention the Lakers or the A-Team, and most people will know exactly what and who you're talking about. The key is to get creative with team names. Names like "the planning committee" or "evening shift" probably aren't going to spark a lot of buzz or curiosity. After a team name is established, take the brand public by posting the name (and possibly even a logo and tagline) in the work area, break room, bathrooms and in company communications-wherever you possibly can. Share your goals. The team's work and goals shouldn't be a secret! Post your goals in a conspicuous place to gain credibility and exposure. The more people who know about your aspirations, is the more people who can rally around your efforts. Exploit strengths. Some people are naturally gifted at rallying others, while others are more gifted at communicating through written mediums. The key here is to recognize the team's natural abilities, and then delegate the tasks that best suit them. Perhaps one team member could draft a company-wide email, and another could spread the news via word of mouth. Just remember that the more ways you get the message out, the more buzz it will create. Take credit. If the team accomplishes a major goal or milestone, they need to take credit for it. Holding a five to ten minute presentation detailing the accomplishments to the rest of the company is a great way to do this. Publicizing the achievements in a company memo or newsletter is another avenue you could take. Remember, publicizing a successful team isn't gloating or bragging (that is, if you do it right and follow the tips above). Rather, it's a way to inspire and help others succeed in what they're doing. So spread the word! "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Meade By Clint Maun, CPS - www.maunlemke.com ---
