October is an international month. Baseball, America's pastime is played to its final out in the World Series. Once an exclusively American game, baseball has become global with many of the best players flooding in from the Caribbean, Latin America and Japan. October 31 is autumn's curtain call falling on the crooked smile of the Jack-o'-lantern. This children’s festival of costumes and masks has spread from North America throughout the world. A hunt for tricks or treats, many children carry UNICEF boxes to raise the hopes of youth around the world. Along the United Nations theme, October 24 is United Nations Day. Add in UNESCO's World Teachers’ Day observed on October 5, and the 10th month of the year garners an even more lustrous international feel. Also UN related – World Food Day is celebrated worldwide on October 16 – in honor of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. All these events remind us that we are a global village and displace the myth that October is merely Halloween month. --- October's RetirementHomes.com's Newsletter focuses on the business of Senior Living across North America. • Define Company Values with Dining Best Practices by Cindy Heilman, the CEO of Higher Standards presents more on achieving dining success. • Techniques to Connect with Senior & Boomer Prospects by Michael Sullivan of 50-Plus Communications details in-person sales with Boomers & older adults. • Design a Strategic Marketing Plan for your Retirement Community by Lydia R.
