November 2009 Newsletter - Thanksgiving Edition Can't Post Private Reply

November is a drab month. At least that's the perception in the Northern US and Canada. October's Halloween celebration has lit up the autumn night, ahead...dreams of Christmas. Dreary November never has a ghost of a chance with the cold bracing Arctic winds rushing in like warriors.

Gratefully, there is Thanksgiving Day on Thursday the 26th ... the beginning of a four day weekend for many Americans ... a chance to relax and remember the goodness and bounty of life.

Growing up, I remember American Thanksgiving. Born and bred in Windsor, Ontario, across the border from Detroit, I'd accompany my parents to see the traditional Thanksgiving Day game pitting the Lions against another NFL foe.

The air was cool and fresh in the stadium ... the franks were juicy snuggled in steaming buns and the hot chocolate warmed the palate. The Lions, a frequent NFL bottom dweller, always played well on Thanksgiving, giving the crowd a special thrill for packing the stands.

Another memory of Thanksgiving …

In the late 70s I lived in New York City's Lower East Side ... before gentrification, the renovations and bustling nightlife. The neighborhood was low rent but colorful and bohemian, a part of town where no one expected generosity...especially the panhandlers. But on Thanksgiving Day I walked past several local restaurants posting signs ... 'Free Thanksgiving Meal for Anyone'. Those signs were emblems of American generosity. Sure, it was a once in a year offer ... but a free meal for anyone?

The RetirementHomes.com November Newsletter is a Thanksgiving celebration featuring:

. Michael P. Sullivan of 50-Plus Communications Consulting

. Technology for Aging Expert Laurie Orlov

. Health Care specialist and speaker, Clint Maun CSP

. Product and Service Spotlight

. Upcoming Events

. Introducing – Jim Brigleb – author of a charged political blog. This month Jim provides his views on a controversial topic in an opinion piece - National Health Care Shell Game.

Enjoy!
