May is an exciting month. Spring is in full bloom, rainy days are behind us, and the sun is brightly shining. The green grass is fully recovered from the wintry snows. The new leaves are hanging from the trees and the flowers are flourishing. Homeowners have started up their gardens with seeds and bulbs. It's a time to celebrate and memorialize important themes in our lives, some treasured and others, merely fun. May will bring us an assortment of celebrations and reflections: . Kentucky Derby Day, the first jewel in The Triple Crown . Cinco de Mayo, a joyous celebration of pride for Mexicans and Mexican-Americans . Mother's Day, a venerated day to honor the nurturer who brought us into the world . National Nursing Home Week, celebrated in nursing and rehabilitation facilities nationwide . Victoria Day, in Canada, to commemorate the long-lasting reign of the British monarch . The Indy 500 celebrating America's love affair with the race car . Memorial Day, to commemorate Americans who died while serving in the military . Older Americans Month - an all-month salute to the contribution of those who "Age Strong, Live Long." May has it all: great weather, fun sporting events, an homage to Mom, remembrance of the war dead, and an acknowledgment of seniors. There's something about spring that brings out joy and the need to reflect. I hope that the May 2010 Newsletter will bring out similar sentiments in our readers.
