July. The song that comes to mind is Summer in the City, a number one hit from 1966 by The Lovin’ Spoonful. At 2:41, this quintessential pop song was a 45 rpm record with the grooves worn out by millions of teenagers around the world.

The simulated car honks and jackhammer sounds in the song simulated the sluggish traffic jams and endless rounds of city construction that wear down even the strongest souls. Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty.

For those working through July, it can be a wearing time. Even with A/C, tempers flare on public transport and on the sidewalks. Ironically, millions in colder climates who were looking forward to the sun and heat, want to roll it back to colder, snowy weather. People looking half dead, walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head.

Lots of wonderful happenings pop up in the heat. City pools open in sync with the holiday weekend. Lifeguards patrol while families cool off in the refreshing aquamarine urban gems. Children skim down slides and whoosh into the waiting water with laughter and splashes.

Some of us have taken off for summer vacations to cottages, camping or sightseeing. Make sure there’s a body of water nearby to douse the flame. Isn’t it a pity, doesn’t seem to be a shadow in the city.

In this summer issue:

. Michael P. Sullivan of 50-Plus Communications Consulting offers Helping Older People Remember More that outlines the keys to communicating with older adults for educational and business purposes.

. Harold N. Urman Ph.D. of Vital Research whirls a statistical analysis of a growing retirement phenomenon - Adult Day Services Can Help Seniors and Their Caregivers. It's Dr. Urman at his fact-filled best.

. Clint Maun, CPS outlines three easy things you can do to help create an environment of respect and positive morale in Are You Helping or Hindering Employee Respect?

. Upcoming Events

. Stephen Winbaum, Communications Coordinator of RetirementHomes.com, rounds out the hot month of July with Boomers Come of Age with Social Media – a positive spin on the dynamic Baby Boomer generation coming of age with online and mobile communications.

ENJOY!
