August 2009. 40 years since an epochal event in youth culture - Woodstock. 40 years since 400,000 children of the universe tried to get back to the garden in Bethel, NY. The anniversary creates an aura on incomprehensibility. 40 years hence, Baby Boomers have been transformed from a tie-dyed metropolis to a retirement tsunami. Though no one can predict how it will play out, it's certain that Baby Boomers will change the notion of retirement. A lot of this August Newsletter touches on Boomers as they enter the aging realm. 1. Harold N. Urman, Ph.D., co-founder of Vital Research, focuses on 'Culture Change', a new cooperative movement that seeks to transform senior housing into a more person-centered environment. 2. 'Five Hot Buttons to Increases Boomer Sales' by Michael P. Sullivan of 50-Plus Communications Consulting outlines the Boomer DNA and how to focus sales to reach its idealism, education and independence. 3. 'Does your community need a service makeover?' by Higher Standards' Cindy Heilman provides a fun quiz to get your community up to dining scratch and pays heed to the higher expectations that affluent Boomers will bring to senior care standards. 4. Technology for Aging Expert Laurie Orlov writes 'Helping care providers communicate with families' for adult children providing caregiving for elderly parents. 5. Clint Maun, CSP pens 'Alternative Performance Reviews' filled with unconventional ways for health care management and workers to assess their performances. If you can remember Woodstock, then you weren't there! Enjoy Stephen Winbaum is the Communications Coordinator of RetirementHomes.com ---
