Overwhelmed Can't Post Private Reply

well, i know my dad is NOT happy where he is here in Kelowna in his new seniors home.
I am here for the winter to help him out as he is showing signs of dementia and we're in the process of getting him accessed.
Is there such a thing as room mates? I mean, 2 men living together to share expenses.
I don't even know if dad will do that.
Anyway, he's open to moving to Alberta, or to stay in BC.
He calls where he's staying now 'the jail'. Not getting enough to eat. The heating system is uncontrollable and at 76, I think he's the youngest there.
Also, as French is his first language, he is disappointed that no one in this facility speaks french.
I am lost, can anyone help?

Hi Dianne, it sounds like you may be in Canada? In Maryland (US) we absolutely have roommates (called companion rooms) and it works out beautifully. Not only does this arrangement benefit both financially, most of the time it helps with socialization too.

Hey Dianne, I faced the same problem with my dad when he had to move out of his home of 30 years to a care facility. He absolutely hated it. After a few days he got depressed. It was doing him more harm than good. I was at a loss when my friend suggested Responselink to me. He now lives with me but does not need constant full time care as he wears the bracelet and in case of any emergencies he just needs to push a button. It also reminds him to take his medication on time. It has been of a huge relief to me and my dad is much happier.

Hi ddiiaanne , I work in a Assisted Living Facitlity, I know that not only can companion rooms benefit the elderly, but so can the emergency pendants that amytribb recommended. Sometimes while in a Assisted Living Facility the staff isn’t able to keep up with the demands of the residents. We have some residents that have purchased emergency alarms and pendants to help with the safety concern. After looking at the site ResponseLINK, I was amazed at all the extras that they offered. Not only was it a emergency alarm, it also is a prescription/ meal reminder, they give wellness checks and health check calls. Check more into their site, its wonderful what all they provide
