By Stephen Winbaum The latest buzzword is AlphaBoomers, a term coined by NBC Universal (NBCU) to signify the dramatic growth of the 55 to 64 demographic. It is a field peopled by Boomers in their last decade before reaching the traditional age of retirement: 65. NBCU's message – Old Is the New Young – published in November – is that advertisers underestimate the income and spending clout of AlphaBoomers – their growing access to the online hub of communications and purchasing. AlphaBoomers maintain a household income of nearly $70,000 and possess a penchant for high-definition TVs, DVRs and broadband Internet; nearly 60 percent text message on their cell phones. Rival CBC News and USA Today have arrived with similar findings in another November offering - Boomers Joining Social Media at Record Rate. 47 percent of Boomers – aged 50 to 64 – are engaged in social networking on Facebook, an 88 percent growth from 2009! Twitter has also become a major interactive growth medium. The online surge of the older Boomer set reflects a similar growth in the search by older Boomers for retirement options, for themselves, and for their parents. --- Happy Holidays to all readers of the RetirementHomes.com Newsletter. Incredibly, this marks our 2nd anniversary since our launch in December, 2008. It's been a wondrous Internet experience. Only to write – it's our readers that make it real. Thank you. Stephen Winbaum is the Communications Coordinator of RetirementHomes.com. ---
