Independent Living Communities enable residents to live as independently as possible, while providing certain services and social activities. Some facilities provide minor help with medications as well. Staff is available twenty-four hours a day. Retirement villages and retirement communities, unlike retirement homes, offer separate and autonomous homes for residents. Assistance may include the administration or supervision of medication, or personal care services provided by a trained staff person. Other licensure terms used for this philosophy of care include Residential Care Home, Assisted Care Living Facilities, and Personal Care Homes. Each state licensing agency has its own definition of the term it uses to describe assisted living. Assisted living comes by many names, such as residential care, board and care, or group homes. Nursing Home residents in a skilled nursing facility may also receive physical, occupational, and other rehabilitative therapies following an accident or illness. Assisted Living communities are regulated and licensed at the US state level. Housing arrangements for the future can be a stressful, anxiety-provoking topic for you and your family. An assisted living facility may be a good choice if you need more personal care services than are feasible at home or in an independent living retirement community.
