Assisted Living communities are regulated and licensed at the US state level. Independent Living Communities enable residents to live as independently as possible, while providing certain services and social activities. Each state licensing agency has its own definition of the term it uses to describe assisted living. A nursing home may be a good choice if both medical and personal care needs have become too great to handle at home. Other licensure terms used for this philosophy of care include Residential Care Home, Assisted Care Living Facilities, and Personal Care Homes. Assisted living comes by many names, such as residential care, board and care, or group homes. Retirement homes are privately owned rental accommodations for seniors who are able to manage and pay for their own care. Nursing Home residents include the elderly and younger adults with physical or mental disabilities. More than two-thirds of the states use the licensure term assisted living. Independent living is a general name for any housing arrangement designed exclusively for seniors. Nursing Home residents include the elderly and younger adults with physical or mental disabilities. Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with monitoring of resident activities to help to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Assisted living is a philosophy of care and services promoting independence and dignity.
