Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with activities of daily living. Each state licensing agency has its own definition of the term it uses to describe assisted living. Retirement homes are privately owned rental accommodations for seniors who are able to manage and pay for their own care. Assisted Living communities are regulated and licensed at the US state level. A nursing home is normally the highest level of care for older adults outside of a hospital. Nursing Home residents in a skilled nursing facility may also receive physical, occupational, and other rehabilitative therapies following an accident or illness. A nursing home is a place of residence for people who require constant nursing care and have significant deficiencies with activities of daily living. Other licensure terms used for this philosophy of care include Residential Care Home, Assisted Care Living Facilities, and Personal Care Homes. There is a wide range of home care services that can help you maintain your independence within the comfort of your own home, from in home help to day care. Independent Living Communities enable residents to live as independently as possible, while providing certain services and social activities. More than two-thirds of the states use the licensure term assisted living. Assisted living comes by many names, such as residential care, board and care, or group homes.
