Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with monitoring of resident activities to help to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. A nursing home is normally the highest level of care for older adults outside of a hospital. Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with activities of daily living. Nursing Home residents in a skilled nursing facility may also receive physical, occupational, and other rehabilitative therapies following an accident or illness. A retirement home is a multi-residence housing facility intended for senior citizens. Some facilities provide minor help with medications as well. Assisted living is a philosophy of care and services promoting independence and dignity. Independent Living Communities enable residents to live as independently as possible, while providing certain services and social activities. You do not need to provide medical evidence that you need a minimum level of care. Nursing Home residents include the elderly and younger adults with physical or mental disabilities. Retirement homes are privately owned rental accommodations for seniors who are able to manage and pay for their own care. Assisted living emerged in the 1990s as an eldercare alternative on the continuum of care for seniors for whom Independent living is no longer appropriate but who do not need the 24-hour medical care provided by a nursing home. Retirement villages and retirement communities, unlike retirement homes, offer separate and autonomous homes for residents. Independent living is a general name for any housing arrangement designed exclusively for seniors. Other licensure terms used for this philosophy of care include Residential Care Home, Assisted Care Living Facilities, and Personal Care Homes. Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with coordination of services by outside health careproviders.
