There is a wide range of home care services that can help you maintain your independence within the comfort of your own home, from in home help to day care. More than two-thirds of the states use the licensure term assisted living. A nursing home, convalescent home, Skilled Nursing Unit, care home or rest home provides a specific type of care for its residents. An assisted living facility may be a good choice if you don’t need the round-the-clock medical care and supervision of a nursing home. A place in a retirement home can be paid for on a rental basis, like an apartment, or can be bought in perpetuity on the same basis as a condominium. The usual retirement home pattern is that each person or couple in the home has an apartment-style room or suite of rooms. Retirement homes are also called retirement residences. Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with monitoring of resident activities to help to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. An assisted living facility may be a good choice if you don’t need the round-the-clock medical care and supervision of a nursing home. Assisted living emerged in the 1990s as an eldercare alternative on the continuum of care for seniors for whom Independent living is no longer appropriate but who do not need the 24-hour medical care provided by a nursing home.
