Home Away From Home II
Retirement villages and retirement communities, unlike retirement homes, offer separate and autonomous homes for residents. Retirement homes are privately owned rental accommodations for seniors who are able to manage and pay for their own care. More than two-thirds of the states use the licensure term assisted living. You have a close network of nearby family, friends, and neighbors. An assisted living facility may be a good choice if you need more personal care services than are feasible at home or in an independent living retirement community. Nursing Home residents in a skilled nursing facility may also receive physical, occupational, and other rehabilitative therapies following an accident or illness. Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with monitoring of resident activities to help to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. A nursing home is a place of residence for people who require constant nursing care and have significant deficiencies with activities of daily living. Generally, retirement homes are designed for seniors who need minimal to moderate support with their daily living activities. An assisted living facility may be a good choice if you don’t need the round-the-clock medical care and supervision of a nursing home. A place in a retirement home can be paid for on a rental basis, like an apartment, or can be bought in perpetuity on the same basis as a condominium. Independent living is a general name for any housing arrangement designed exclusively for seniors.
