A nursing home, convalescent home, Skilled Nursing Unit, care home or rest home provides a specific type of care for its residents. You do not need to provide medical evidence that you need a minimum level of care. The usual retirement home pattern is that each person or couple in the home has an apartment-style room or suite of rooms. A nursing home is a place of residence for people who require constant nursing care and have significant deficiencies with activities of daily living. A retirement home differs from a nursing home primarily in the level of medical care given. Each state licensing agency has its own definition of the term it uses to describe assisted living. Generally, retirement homes are designed for seniors who need minimal to moderate support with their daily living activities. Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with coordination of services by outside health careproviders.
