A nursing home, convalescent home, Skilled Nursing Unit, care home or rest home provides a specific type of care for its residents. A retirement home differs from a nursing home primarily in the level of medical care given. Assisted living emerged in the 1990s as an eldercare alternative on the continuum of care for seniors for whom Independent living is no longer appropriate but who do not need the 24-hour medical care provided by a nursing home. Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with coordination of services by outside health careproviders. A place in a retirement home can be paid for on a rental basis, like an apartment, or can be bought in perpetuity on the same basis as a condominium. A nursing home may be a good choice if you need a higher level of care temporarily after a hospitalization, but it’s anticipated you will be able to return to home or another facility after a period of time. There is a wide range of home care services that can help you maintain your independence within the comfort of your own home, from in home help to day care. Independent Living Communities enable residents to live as independently as possible, while providing certain services and social activities. More than two-thirds of the states use the licensure term assisted living. Independent living is a general name for any housing arrangement designed exclusively for seniors. Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with activities of daily living. Retirement villages and retirement communities, unlike retirement homes, offer separate and autonomous homes for residents. Senior Housing - find independent and assisted living facilities, nursing homes, retirement communities, and other elderly care. Assisted living comes by many names, such as residential care, board and care, or group homes. Retirement homes are also called retirement residences. A nursing home is normally the highest level of care for older adults outside of a hospital. You do not need to provide medical evidence that you need a minimum level of care. Other licensure terms used for this philosophy of care include Residential Care Home, Assisted Care Living Facilities, and Personal Care Homes. Assisted Living communities are regulated and licensed at the US state level.
