Independent Living Communities enable residents to live as independently as possible, while providing certain services and social activities. An assisted living facility may be a good choice if you don’t need the round-the-clock medical care and supervision of a nursing home. A nursing home is a place of residence for people who require constant nursing care and have significant deficiencies with activities of daily living. Each state licensing agency has its own definition of the term it uses to describe assisted living. A nursing home is normally the highest level of care for older adults outside of a hospital. A nursing home, convalescent home, Skilled Nursing Unit, care home or rest home provides a specific type of care for its residents. Some facilities provide minor help with medications as well. A retirement home is a multi-residence housing facility intended for senior citizens. Nursing Home residents include the elderly and younger adults with physical or mental disabilities. Each state licensing agency has its own definition of the term it uses to describe assisted living. Assisted living emerged in the 1990s as an eldercare alternative on the continuum of care for seniors for whom Independent living is no longer appropriate but who do not need the 24-hour medical care provided by a nursing home. Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with monitoring of resident activities to help to ensure their health, safety, and well-being.
