A nursing home is a place of residence for people who require constant nursing care and have significant deficiencies with activities of daily living. The housing is friendlier to older adults, more compact, with easier navigation and assistance in outside maintenance. You have a close network of nearby family, friends, and neighbors. Each state licensing agency has its own definition of the term it uses to describe assisted living. Assisted living comes by many names, such as residential care, board and care, or group homes. Some facilities provide minor help with medications as well. A nursing home, convalescent home, Skilled Nursing Unit, care home or rest home provides a specific type of care for its residents. An assisted living facility may be a good choice if you need more personal care services than are feasible at home or in an independent living retirement community. Each state licensing agency has its own definition of the term it uses to describe assisted living. Assistance may include the administration or supervision of medication, or personal care services provided by a trained staff person. You do not need to provide medical evidence that you need a minimum level of care.
