More than two-thirds of the states use the licensure term assisted living. Assisted Living communities are regulated and licensed at the US state level. Retirement villages and retirement communities, unlike retirement homes, offer separate and autonomous homes for residents. A place in a retirement home can be paid for on a rental basis, like an apartment, or can be bought in perpetuity on the same basis as a condominium. Generally, retirement homes are designed for seniors who need minimal to moderate support with their daily living activities. Assistance may include the administration or supervision of medication, or personal care services provided by a trained staff person. Independent living is a general name for any housing arrangement designed exclusively for seniors. You do not need to provide medical evidence that you need a minimum level of care. Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with coordination of services by outside health careproviders. Each state licensing agency has its own definition of the term it uses to describe assisted living. Retirement homes are privately owned rental accommodations for seniors who are able to manage and pay for their own care. A nursing home may be a good choice if you need a higher level of care temporarily after a hospitalization, but itís anticipated you will be able to return to home or another facility after a period of time.
