A nursing home is a place of residence for people who require constant nursing care and have significant deficiencies with activities of daily living. A nursing home, convalescent home, Skilled Nursing Unit, care home or rest home provides a specific type of care for its residents. Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with coordination of services by outside health careproviders. Nursing Home residents in a skilled nursing facility may also receive physical, occupational, and other rehabilitative therapies following an accident or illness. Some facilities provide minor help with medications as well. A nursing home, convalescent home, Skilled Nursing Unit, care home or rest home provides a specific type of care for its residents. Assisted living comes by many names, such as residential care, board and care, or group homes. Some facilities provide minor help with medications as well. A nursing home may be a good choice if you need a higher level of care temporarily after a hospitalization, but itís anticipated you will be able to return to home or another facility after a period of time. Each state licensing agency has its own definition of the term it uses to describe assisted living. Other licensure terms used for this philosophy of care include Residential Care Home, Assisted Care Living Facilities, and Personal Care Homes. Assistance may include the administration or supervision of medication, or personal care services provided by a trained staff person. The housing is friendlier to older adults, more compact, with easier navigation and assistance in outside maintenance.
