Assistance may include the administration or supervision of medication, or personal care services provided by a trained staff person. A nursing home may be a good choice if both medical and personal care needs have become too great to handle at home. A retirement home is a multi-residence housing facility intended for senior citizens. Independent Living Communities enable residents to live as independently as possible, while providing certain services and social activities. Retirement homes are privately owned rental accommodations for seniors who are able to manage and pay for their own care. Generally, retirement homes are designed for seniors who need minimal to moderate support with their daily living activities. Retirement villages and retirement communities, unlike retirement homes, offer separate and autonomous homes for residents. A retirement home differs from a nursing home primarily in the level of medical care given. Assisted Living communities are regulated and licensed at the US state level. Independent Living Communities enable residents to live as independently as possible, while providing certain services and social activities. Independent living is a general name for any housing arrangement designed exclusively for seniors. Each state licensing agency has its own definition of the term it uses to describe assisted living. A nursing home may be a good choice if you need a higher level of care temporarily after a hospitalization, but it’s anticipated you will be able to return to home or another facility after a period of time. Retirement villages and retirement communities, unlike retirement homes, offer separate and autonomous homes for residents. Nursing Home residents include the elderly and younger adults with physical or mental disabilities. The housing is friendlier to older adults, more compact, with easier navigation and assistance in outside maintenance. Independent living is a general name for any housing arrangement designed exclusively for seniors.
