Assisted living emerged in the 1990s as an eldercare alternative on the continuum of care for seniors for whom Independent living is no longer appropriate but who do not need the 24-hour medical care provided by a nursing home. An assisted living facility may be a good choice if you don’t need the round-the-clock medical care and supervision of a nursing home. You do not need to provide medical evidence that you need a minimum level of care. Assisted living is a philosophy of care and services promoting independence and dignity.
