Independent Living Communities enable residents to live as independently as possible, while providing certain services and social activities. A place in a retirement home can be paid for on a rental basis, like an apartment, or can be bought in perpetuity on the same basis as a condominium. Generally, retirement homes are designed for seniors who need minimal to moderate support with their daily living activities. A nursing home is a place of residence for people who require constant nursing care and have significant deficiencies with activities of daily living. More than two-thirds of the states use the licensure term assisted living. The housing is friendlier to older adults, more compact, with easier navigation and assistance in outside maintenance. The usual retirement home pattern is that each person or couple in the home has an apartment-style room or suite of rooms. A retirement home is a multi-residence housing facility intended for senior citizens. Assisted Living communities are regulated and licensed at the US state level. Assisted living comes by many names, such as residential care, board and care, or group homes.
