A nursing home, convalescent home, Skilled Nursing Unit, care home or rest home provides a specific type of care for its residents. There is a wide range of home care services that can help you maintain your independence within the comfort of your own home, from in home help to day care. Each state licensing agency has its own definition of the term it uses to describe assisted living. Independent living is a general name for any housing arrangement designed exclusively for seniors. Assisted living is a philosophy of care and services promoting independence and dignity. A retirement home differs from a nursing home primarily in the level of medical care given. An assisted living facility may be a good choice if you don’t need the round-the-clock medical care and supervision of a nursing home. Some facilities provide minor help with medications as well. Independent Living Communities enable residents to live as independently as possible, while providing certain services and social activities. Retirement villages and retirement communities, unlike retirement homes, offer separate and autonomous homes for residents. More than two-thirds of the states use the licensure term assisted living. The usual retirement home pattern is that each person or couple in the home has an apartment-style room or suite of rooms. The housing is friendlier to older adults, more compact, with easier navigation and assistance in outside maintenance. Some facilities provide minor help with medications as well. Independent Living Communities enable residents to live as independently as possible, while providing certain services and social activities. Housing arrangements for the future can be a stressful, anxiety-provoking topic for you and your family. A retirement home is a multi-residence housing facility intended for senior citizens.
