Retirement Homes & Senior Housing

Assisted Living communities are regulated and licensed at the US state level. Independent Living Communities enable residents to live as independently as possible, while providing certain services and social activities. You have a close network of nearby family, friends, and neighbors. A nursing home may be a good choice if you need a higher level of care temporarily after a hospitalization, but itís anticipated you will be able to return to home or another facility after a period of time. Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with activities of daily living. More than two-thirds of the states use the licensure term assisted living. Assisted living emerged in the 1990s as an eldercare alternative on the continuum of care for seniors for whom Independent living is no longer appropriate but who do not need the 24-hour medical care provided by a nursing home. Retirement homes are also called retirement residences. Generally, retirement homes are designed for seniors who need minimal to moderate support with their daily living activities. Each state licensing agency has its own definition of the term it uses to describe assisted living. Retirement villages and retirement communities, unlike retirement homes, offer separate and autonomous homes for residents. You do not need to provide medical evidence that you need a minimum level of care. The usual retirement home pattern is that each person or couple in the home has an apartment-style room or suite of rooms. Assistance may include the administration or supervision of medication, or personal care services provided by a trained staff person. A nursing home is a place of residence for people who require constant nursing care and have significant deficiencies with activities of daily living.
