Retirement Homes & Senior Housing
Assisted living emerged in the 1990s as an eldercare alternative on the continuum of care for seniors for whom Independent living is no longer appropriate but who do not need the 24-hour medical care provided by a nursing home. A retirement home is a multi-residence housing facility intended for senior citizens. Assisted Living communities are regulated and licensed at the US state level. Independent living is a general name for any housing arrangement designed exclusively for seniors. Retirement homes are privately owned rental accommodations for seniors who are able to manage and pay for their own care. Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with activities of daily living. Nursing Home residents include the elderly and younger adults with physical or mental disabilities. Some facilities provide minor help with medications as well. There is a wide range of home care services that can help you maintain your independence within the comfort of your own home, from in home help to day care. A nursing home may be a good choice if both medical and personal care needs have become too great to handle at home. Each state licensing agency has its own definition of the term it uses to describe assisted living. A nursing home may be a good choice if you need a higher level of care temporarily after a hospitalization, but it’s anticipated you will be able to return to home or another facility after a period of time. Staff is available twenty-four hours a day. A place in a retirement home can be paid for on a rental basis, like an apartment, or can be bought in perpetuity on the same basis as a condominium.
