Retirement Homes & Senior Housing

The housing is friendlier to older adults, more compact, with easier navigation and assistance in outside maintenance. Other licensure terms used for this philosophy of care include Residential Care Home, Assisted Care Living Facilities, and Personal Care Homes. Each state licensing agency has its own definition of the term it uses to describe assisted living. A retirement home is a multi-residence housing facility intended for senior citizens. Senior Housing - find independent and assisted living facilities, nursing homes, retirement communities, and other elderly care. Independent living is a general name for any housing arrangement designed exclusively for seniors. A nursing home, convalescent home, Skilled Nursing Unit, care home or rest home provides a specific type of care for its residents. A nursing home is a place of residence for people who require constant nursing care and have significant deficiencies with activities of daily living. More than two-thirds of the states use the licensure term assisted living. Nursing Home residents in a skilled nursing facility may also receive physical, occupational, and other rehabilitative therapies following an accident or illness. Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with activities of daily living. Assisted living emerged in the 1990s as an eldercare alternative on the continuum of care for seniors for whom Independent living is no longer appropriate but who do not need the 24-hour medical care provided by a nursing home. The usual retirement home pattern is that each person or couple in the home has an apartment-style room or suite of rooms. A retirement home differs from a nursing home primarily in the level of medical care given. You have a close network of nearby family, friends, and neighbors. A place in a retirement home can be paid for on a rental basis, like an apartment, or can be bought in perpetuity on the same basis as a condominium. Independent Living Communities enable residents to live as independently as possible, while providing certain services and social activities. Assisted living comes by many names, such as residential care, board and care, or group homes. Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with coordination of services by outside health careproviders.
