Retirement homes are privately owned rental accommodations for seniors who are able to manage and pay for their own care. You have a close network of nearby family, friends, and neighbors. Assistance may include the administration or supervision of medication, or personal care services provided by a trained staff person. Assisted living emerged in the 1990s as an eldercare alternative on the continuum of care for seniors for whom Independent living is no longer appropriate but who do not need the 24-hour medical care provided by a nursing home. A nursing home may be a good choice if both medical and personal care needs have become too great to handle at home. Nursing Home residents in a skilled nursing facility may also receive physical, occupational, and other rehabilitative therapies following an accident or illness. A nursing home may be a good choice if both medical and personal care needs have become too great to handle at home. Assisted Living communities are regulated and licensed at the US state level. Independent Living Communities enable residents to live as independently as possible, while providing certain services and social activities. Staff is available twenty-four hours a day. A nursing home may be a good choice if you need a higher level of care temporarily after a hospitalization, but it’s anticipated you will be able to return to home or another facility after a period of time. Assistance may include the administration or supervision of medication, or personal care services provided by a trained staff person. More than two-thirds of the states use the licensure term assisted living. An assisted living facility may be a good choice if you don’t need the round-the-clock medical care and supervision of a nursing home. Assisted living comes by many names, such as residential care, board and care, or group homes. The usual retirement home pattern is that each person or couple in the home has an apartment-style room or suite of rooms.
