A retirement home differs from a nursing home primarily in the level of medical care given. Retirement villages and retirement communities, unlike retirement homes, offer separate and autonomous homes for residents. A nursing home is normally the highest level of care for older adults outside of a hospital. You have a close network of nearby family, friends, and neighbors. You do not need to provide medical evidence that you need a minimum level of care. More than two-thirds of the states use the licensure term assisted living. The usual retirement home pattern is that each person or couple in the home has an apartment-style room or suite of rooms. There is a wide range of home care services that can help you maintain your independence within the comfort of your own home, from in home help to day care. Assisted living comes by many names, such as residential care, board and care, or group homes. Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with coordination of services by outside health careproviders. A nursing home may be a good choice if you need a higher level of care temporarily after a hospitalization, but itís anticipated you will be able to return to home or another facility after a period of time. Senior Housing - find independent and assisted living facilities, nursing homes, retirement communities, and other elderly care. Retirement homes are also called retirement residences. A place in a retirement home can be paid for on a rental basis, like an apartment, or can be bought in perpetuity on the same basis as a condominium.
