    Retirement Homes & Senior Housing

A retirement home differs from a nursing home primarily in the level of medical care given. Assistance may include the administration or supervision of medication, or personal care services provided by a trained staff person. There is a wide range of home care services that can help you maintain your independence within the comfort of your own home, from in home help to day care. Nursing Home residents in a skilled nursing facility may also receive physical, occupational, and other rehabilitative therapies following an accident or illness. Other licensure terms used for this philosophy of care include Residential Care Home, Assisted Care Living Facilities, and Personal Care Homes. You do not need to provide medical evidence that you need a minimum level of care. Retirement homes are also called retirement residences. An assisted living facility may be a good choice if you don’t need the round-the-clock medical care and supervision of a nursing home. Assisted living emerged in the 1990s as an eldercare alternative on the continuum of care for seniors for whom Independent living is no longer appropriate but who do not need the 24-hour medical care provided by a nursing home. Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with monitoring of resident activities to help to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Other licensure terms used for this philosophy of care include Residential Care Home, Assisted Care Living Facilities, and Personal Care Homes. Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with activities of daily living. Assisted living is a philosophy of care and services promoting independence and dignity. A nursing home, convalescent home, Skilled Nursing Unit, care home or rest home provides a specific type of care for its residents. Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with monitoring of resident activities to help to ensure their health, safety, and well-being.
