Assistance may include the administration or supervision of medication, or personal care services provided by a trained staff person. You do not need to provide medical evidence that you need a minimum level of care. A retirement home differs from a nursing home primarily in the level of medical care given. An assisted living facility may be a good choice if you don’t need the round-the-clock medical care and supervision of a nursing home. A place in a retirement home can be paid for on a rental basis, like an apartment, or can be bought in perpetuity on the same basis as a condominium. Nursing Home residents in a skilled nursing facility may also receive physical, occupational, and other rehabilitative therapies following an accident or illness. A nursing home is a place of residence for people who require constant nursing care and have significant deficiencies with activities of daily living.
