Independent Living Communities enable residents to live as independently as possible, while providing certain services and social activities. The usual retirement home pattern is that each person or couple in the home has an apartment-style room or suite of rooms. A nursing home is a place of residence for people who require constant nursing care and have significant deficiencies with activities of daily living. A retirement home is a multi-residence housing facility intended for senior citizens. Staff is available twenty-four hours a day. Independent Living Communities enable residents to live as independently as possible, while providing certain services and social activities. Other licensure terms used for this philosophy of care include Residential Care Home, Assisted Care Living Facilities, and Personal Care Homes. Assisted living emerged in the 1990s as an eldercare alternative on the continuum of care for seniors for whom Independent living is no longer appropriate but who do not need the 24-hour medical care provided by a nursing home. Staff is available twenty-four hours a day. Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with activities of daily living. Independent living is a general name for any housing arrangement designed exclusively for seniors. Nursing Home residents in a skilled nursing facility may also receive physical, occupational, and other rehabilitative therapies following an accident or illness. A retirement home differs from a nursing home primarily in the level of medical care given. Assistance may include the administration or supervision of medication, or personal care services provided by a trained staff person. Some facilities provide minor help with medications as well. You do not need to provide medical evidence that you need a minimum level of care.
