A retirement home differs from a nursing home primarily in the level of medical care given. Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with monitoring of resident activities to help to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Assisted living comes by many names, such as residential care, board and care, or group homes. Nursing Home residents in a skilled nursing facility may also receive physical, occupational, and other rehabilitative therapies following an accident or illness. You have a close network of nearby family, friends, and neighbors. The housing is friendlier to older adults, more compact, with easier navigation and assistance in outside maintenance. Assistance may include the administration or supervision of medication, or personal care services provided by a trained staff person. Other licensure terms used for this philosophy of care include Residential Care Home, Assisted Care Living Facilities, and Personal Care Homes. A nursing home may be a good choice if both medical and personal care needs have become too great to handle at home. Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with coordination of services by outside health careproviders. Retirement villages and retirement communities, unlike retirement homes, offer separate and autonomous homes for residents. Retirement homes are also called retirement residences.
