Assisted living is a philosophy of care and services promoting independence and dignity. Retirement homes are also called retirement residences. Staff is available twenty-four hours a day. Generally, retirement homes are designed for seniors who need minimal to moderate support with their daily living activities. Nursing Home residents in a skilled nursing facility may also receive physical, occupational, and other rehabilitative therapies following an accident or illness. Nursing Home residents include the elderly and younger adults with physical or mental disabilities.
