Retirement Homes & Senior Housing

Assisted living is a philosophy of care and services promoting independence and dignity. Generally, retirement homes are designed for seniors who need minimal to moderate support with their daily living activities. The housing is friendlier to older adults, more compact, with easier navigation and assistance in outside maintenance. Retirement villages and retirement communities, unlike retirement homes, offer separate and autonomous homes for residents. An assisted living facility may be a good choice if you donít need the round-the-clock medical care and supervision of a nursing home. Assisted living emerged in the 1990s as an eldercare alternative on the continuum of care for seniors for whom Independent living is no longer appropriate but who do not need the 24-hour medical care provided by a nursing home. Retirement homes are privately owned rental accommodations for seniors who are able to manage and pay for their own care. Assisted Living communities are regulated and licensed at the US state level. A nursing home may be a good choice if you need a higher level of care temporarily after a hospitalization, but itís anticipated you will be able to return to home or another facility after a period of time. Staff is available twenty-four hours a day. A nursing home is normally the highest level of care for older adults outside of a hospital. Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with coordination of services by outside health careproviders. An assisted living facility may be a good choice if you donít need the round-the-clock medical care and supervision of a nursing home.
