Retirement Homes & Senior Housing

A retirement home differs from a nursing home primarily in the level of medical care given. Nursing Home residents include the elderly and younger adults with physical or mental disabilities. Other licensure terms used for this philosophy of care include Residential Care Home, Assisted Care Living Facilities, and Personal Care Homes. Assisted living is a philosophy of care and services promoting independence and dignity. A nursing home is a place of residence for people who require constant nursing care and have significant deficiencies with activities of daily living. Senior Housing - find independent and assisted living facilities, nursing homes, retirement communities, and other elderly care. Generally, retirement homes are designed for seniors who need minimal to moderate support with their daily living activities. The housing is friendlier to older adults, more compact, with easier navigation and assistance in outside maintenance. You do not need to provide medical evidence that you need a minimum level of care. Retirement homes are privately owned rental accommodations for seniors who are able to manage and pay for their own care. The usual retirement home pattern is that each person or couple in the home has an apartment-style room or suite of rooms. Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with monitoring of resident activities to help to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Assisted living emerged in the 1990s as an eldercare alternative on the continuum of care for seniors for whom Independent living is no longer appropriate but who do not need the 24-hour medical care provided by a nursing home.
