Nursing Home residents in a skilled nursing facility may also receive physical, occupational, and other rehabilitative therapies following an accident or illness. Retirement homes are also called retirement residences. A nursing home may be a good choice if you need a higher level of care temporarily after a hospitalization, but it’s anticipated you will be able to return to home or another facility after a period of time. Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with activities of daily living. Assisted living is a philosophy of care and services promoting independence and dignity. An assisted living facility may be a good choice if you don’t need the round-the-clock medical care and supervision of a nursing home. Other licensure terms used for this philosophy of care include Residential Care Home, Assisted Care Living Facilities, and Personal Care Homes. More than two-thirds of the states use the licensure term assisted living. Senior Living - info and advice for older adults. Assisted living comes by many names, such as residential care, board and care, or group homes. Each state licensing agency has its own definition of the term it uses to describe assisted living. Nursing Home residents include the elderly and younger adults with physical or mental disabilities. Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with monitoring of resident activities to help to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Staff is available twenty-four hours a day. Nursing Home residents in a skilled nursing facility may also receive physical, occupational, and other rehabilitative therapies following an accident or illness.
