A retirement home differs from a nursing home primarily in the level of medical care given. The usual retirement home pattern is that each person or couple in the home has an apartment-style room or suite of rooms. Other licensure terms used for this philosophy of care include Residential Care Home, Assisted Care Living Facilities, and Personal Care Homes. A nursing home is a place of residence for people who require constant nursing care and have significant deficiencies with activities of daily living. A nursing home may be a good choice if you need a higher level of care temporarily after a hospitalization, but it’s anticipated you will be able to return to home or another facility after a period of time. Assisted Living communities are regulated and licensed at the US state level. Housing arrangements for the future can be a stressful, anxiety-provoking topic for you and your family. Nursing Home residents include the elderly and younger adults with physical or mental disabilities. Some facilities provide minor help with medications as well. Retirement villages and retirement communities, unlike retirement homes, offer separate and autonomous homes for residents. An assisted living facility may be a good choice if you don’t need the round-the-clock medical care and supervision of a nursing home. An assisted living facility may be a good choice if you need more personal care services than are feasible at home or in an independent living retirement community. The housing is friendlier to older adults, more compact, with easier navigation and assistance in outside maintenance. Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with activities of daily living. A nursing home is normally the highest level of care for older adults outside of a hospital. Some facilities provide minor help with medications as well. Nursing Home residents include the elderly and younger adults with physical or mental disabilities. Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with activities of daily living.
