Assisted living is a philosophy of care and services promoting independence and dignity. The housing is friendlier to older adults, more compact, with easier navigation and assistance in outside maintenance. Other licensure terms used for this philosophy of care include Residential Care Home, Assisted Care Living Facilities, and Personal Care Homes. You do not need to provide medical evidence that you need a minimum level of care. Retirement homes are privately owned rental accommodations for seniors who are able to manage and pay for their own care. Assistance may include the administration or supervision of medication, or personal care services provided by a trained staff person. A nursing home is normally the highest level of care for older adults outside of a hospital. Assisted living residences or assisted living facilities provide supervision or assistance with coordination of services by outside health careproviders. A retirement home differs from a nursing home primarily in the level of medical care given.
